In this site you will be able to find answers to questions regarding the Residential Rental Housing Ordinance, as well as answer questions regarding the Property Maintenance Code. All forms may be filled out online or in the Township Office. Please call ahead if you are wanting to schedule your inspection. At any time you may email a question and you will be answered within a couple of days.

On October 25, 2004 the Allendale Township Board passed Ordinance 2004-15, which requires all residential rental properties within the Township to be registered with this Department, and allow for inspections of said rental structures. *** Steps for Registering a Residential Rental Property ***

Step 1: Obtain a registration form from the Township Office/Department of Planning and Community Development, or online.

Step 2: Return Completed and Signed Registration form (with applicable fee) to:

Step 3: Attach a Tenant Information Form to the Registration Form

Step 4: Schedule Inspection appointment if necessary. Please see ordinance for information.

*All properties must be registered with the Department of Planning and Community Development by September 15th each year. If not received in time, registration fee goes up.

*A property may be inspected upon receiving a complaint on said property.

*** Steps for filing a complaint on a residential rental property ***

Step 1: Call the Township office at (616)895-6295 ext 34 to notify the Rental Housing Inspector that you want to file a complaint or call 9-1-1 if it is an emergency.

Step 2: Fill out and sign a complaint form and return to:

Ordinance No. 2005-1 was passed on February 14, 2005 that adopted the 2003 International Property Maintenance Code® with revisions to use in Allendale Township as a guideline for all RENTAL HOUSING PROPERTY MAINTENANCE.

* PLEASE NOTE:  A list is available to everyone as to what items will be looked at during the inspection.  Please refer to the INSPECTION CHECKLIST link at the bottom of the page.  Please note that this list does not necessarily constitute an all inclusive list.  For a complete list please refer to the 2003 International Property Maintenance Code®. 

An International Property Maintenance Code® Book can be purchased at the Township Office located at 6676 Lake Michigan Dr for $18.00.
