We Need your help!

Please help monitor the behavior of children by the statues of the Veteran's Memorial....children are climbing on the statues, sometimes in the presence of their parents....these statues are not made strong enough for children to climb on....and replacing the statues will run into the thousands of dollars!  This is a community park and we need a community effort to keep it nice!  Thanks for your help

The Designer's Thoughts
By Jim Morgan, RJM Design

•The square shape of the memorial represents the four corners of the world where our veterans have served.
• The nine statues represent those who served in our country's eight wars.
• The statues stand unified in a continuous circle surrounding the plaza to symbolize the common virtues and commitments, which motivated them to serve and to sacrifice for their country.
• Located in the center, stands an obelisk which memorializes those veterans who paid the ultimate price.
• An American eagle stands tall and proud atop the obelisk, surrounded by the veterans who protected our nation over the years against evil and aggression.

The Artist's Thoughts
By Joyce Sweers, Artist

I began on a familiar road "building a statue" on a small pedestal to be placed on the lawn where the old Township hall once stood. Somehow, it developed into becoming a representation of nine wars, in a beautiful park setting, title "The Garden of Honor". Having only text book knowledge and thirty years between me and it, I found myself on an unfamiliar paper journey through the pages of war. It seemed that each war was as different as they were alike. For the most part, I tried to represent the reasons for each war in each particular statue, and still be relative to the conditions of all the wars. While the eye of the artist searched for information, the heart of a mother stumbled over and through the graphic images that recorded the affairs
of war, and my soul went numb for the reasons why. With each leaf I turned and every book I took from the shelf, I became more grateful that for me this was only a paper journey, traveled on a path that was someone else's reality and I can not imagine the sorrow to whom these realities belong. A journey I might not have taken on my own, but one I will always remember.

To the veterans, mothers and to all who had to witness the horror of war, and in honor of those who gave their lives and to those lives that were so cruelly taken, I would like to express.......

"My Paper Journey"
My eyes have only seen ink on paper and they cried,
My heart stumbled on the cold truth and it hurt,
My journey was traveled on a road built by you and it was brief,
My soul has been touched by yours and I will remember you.

"The Soldiers of War"
May your eyes be joyful, may your heart be warm,
May your journey be long and filled with peace,
May you be proud, for you have done your share
and mine too! I thank you!
