It takes many dedicated community residents to make the Township function and provide the necessary
services. Within this publication you will find staff, boards, committees, and individuals that are involved in our Township’s governance! We are blessed to have very committed individuals involved...they not only have a heart for the community, but a vision for our community’s future!
Voter Registration and Elections—2009 was a quiet year for elections, with the only being the Annual School Election in May. Elections would not run smoothly with help from the following people:
- All of the election inspectors and volunteers who work at elections.
- Township staff who sets up and takes down the voting equipment for elections.
- All of the voters who came out to the polls who are patience and understanding, as we implemented many new election rules.
- The staff and congregation at Second Christian Reformed Church who allow the Township use the church facilities for the elections.
Again this year, we sent out forms to residents over 60, who have not yet signed up to receive absentee ballot application automatically prior to an election. If you were not contacted and wish to sign up, please call me.
Passports—Many residents took advantage of obtaining passports through the Township office this year. Routinely, passports can be processed in 5 to 6 weeks. However, an application can be expedited to 3 weeks processing time if an additional fee is paid to the US Department of State.
Notary services—Several Township staff members are notaries. If you should need our free notary services, please stop by the office and see either myself, Carla Lieffers, Laurie Richards, Sharon Kleinjans,
Tami Arsenault, Denise Wiersma, Kathy Hanes, Sharron Besteman, or Nicole Start. Remember...you must sign the documents in the presence of the notary.
Community Information - Watch for event information in the Announcer, and on the outdoor
message sign located in front of the Township office. Just a reminder that the Township meeting agendas and minutes are on the Township website. If there is ever any additional information that you would like to see included on the web, please contact me.
Parks and Recreation—In 2009 the Parks and Recreation Committee requested several projects to be funded by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), which were approved. Those improvements were a new Adult Softball Association storage building, and irrigation and seeding for field #3.. If you have concerns or suggestions regarding the park, please contact me.
Sidewalks—In 2009 funding was approved for the following sidewalk installations:
60th Ave...west side from Crystal north to the Dales
68th Ave...west side from Walgreens south to Joal
Again, if you have concerns or suggestions for sidewalk installation, please contact me.
Cemetery—The Township Cemetery is located on the west side of 60th Avenue, between Warner Street and Lincoln Street, north of Lake Michigan Drive. Some information is listed on the Township web
site, but for more complete information regarding cemetery rules and regulations, purchase of graves, burial
records, etc., please contact me.
And as always, thank you for your continued support and friendship! If I can ever be of
assistance to you, please feel free to stop by the office, or call me at 895-6295, ext. 6, or email me at candy@allendale-twp.org.
